Excellent video and post. Worked for a multinational for a while and got to know many great folks from Algeria. As for WWII, my mother, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins were in occupied Denmark. Similar celebrations in DK when the war ended. Still have a lot of family there.

SFC Herve Abrams - Been to Paris many times and Monte Carlo. Next trip = Normandy and the cellars @ Veuve Clicquot. Wife’s Uncle was a LTJG in USN w/the first wave @ Omaha. Late in life he put together a brief narrative of the events of the day. Even after having read it many a time, still hard to fully comprehend what he/others went through. St. Tropez. Hello! —> The party never ends there!

CPT (Join to see), even the ice cream parlors in St. Tropez serve liquor. Their specialties are liquor infused parfaits and sundaes.

Casablanca, Oran, and Algiers were invaded simultaneously by US and UK forces. I believe the French navy gave some resistance but switched sides to the Allied forces. The strategic goal was to cut off German shipping lanes in the Mediterranean which they accomplished. The Germans resorted to flying in fuel and supplies but it was not enough to sustain them.
I believe Eisenhower was the chief architect for Operation Torch, and his his next objective was the invasion of Europe. He originally opined he wanted to invade Germany next, but the Allied leaders told him it would be suicide. Thus he planned the invasion of Sicily and Normandy. Patton made short work of the Germans in Sicily. They could not retreat fast enough. Then they shipped Patton and his army to Normandy I think a few weeks after D-Day and history will prove his monumental march to the Battle of the Bulge.
I am remiss if my memory is not perfect.

SFC Herve Abrams - I hope you are having a pleasant evening. If you have Netflix there is a great series called WWII in color. I was expecting to see a few Panzers here and a few Shermans there; but it depicts large muscle moves like the Battle of Midway and such. It is quite excellent to include the history behind it.
