They went to great lengths to fool the Germans, and they were quite successful. James Bond is not that far fetched. I heard Fleming based the character of James Bond on an actual agent. Fact stranger than fiction.

LTC Stephen C. Could you imagine the real Hoagy Carmichael playing Bond instead of Sean Connery? I would have loved to see that. Hoagy could have handled it though! Look at his work in Laramie!

LTC Stephen C. - Here is another inspiration. He was awarded an Iron Cross and an OBE! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duško_Popov
Dušan "Duško" Popov, OBE (Serbian Cyrillic: Душан "Душко" Попов; 10 July 1912– 10 August 1981) was a Serbian double agent who served as part of the MI6 and Abwehr during World War II, and passed off disinformation to Germany as part of the Double-Cross System.

SGT (Join to see), I’ll have to take your word for it! I never really watched Laramie (I don’t know why) and the only time I ever saw Hoagy on screen, he was playing a piano player. He played innocuous roles in Topper, To Have and Have Not, The Best Years of Our Lives, etc.
You can see Hoagy in Fleming’s sketch, though!

LTC Stephen C. - I always forget about him in The Best Years of Our Lives! Probably the best post-war film ever made.
