Have you ever seen what happens to the passenger seats during a crash? The weak bolts that hold the seats to the floor will shear and they will all smash together, crushing the occupants.

We're talking passengers on the aircraft, so there is a copilot. Only one of the two pilots has control of an aircraft in an emergency, usually the pilot but in some situations it could be the copilot. Either way one or the other has the time to notify the rest of the crew to prepare for and brace for impact. Never flew commercial aircraft, but I would imagine that such an announcement is protocol for any non-instantaneous emergency.

Agree with you, CPT Jack Durish, and the article. As a pilot I wouldn't give up trying to bring the aircraft safely to ground until the last possible moment. I'd tell the passengers what's happening when I could

What's your copilot doing? Only one of you has control of the aircraft.

As a bomber crew member you know aircrew coordination is essential in any emergency situation. In an emergency I would be controlling the aircraft (some Commands mandated the pilot control the aircraft during an emergency). The copilot and other aircrew help with analyzing the situation and taking appropriate action. If you have passengers, you may have a crew member with them who communicates instructions to them. Yes there is the possibility that controlling the aircraft might take the strength of two people, but that's becoming less likely with modern fly by wire aircraft because there's no physical link between the cockpit controls and the control surfaces.
