We are missing a lot of the dignity and respect for each other that this article encourages...thanks for the post and the aspirational goals that it represents!

Agreed. We have changed from a nation of diversity to a nation that looks for others who agree with me. We need to be examples of those who can cooperate with anyone, even someone who disagrees.

I don't try to encourage everyone to be a leader. I've seen and worked with people who should not be given one ounce of authority. Most need to become good followers, then maybe you might find one or two future leaders.

You make some valid points. I should have clarified myself. I was speaking more from the view of being a civilian, since I've been out of the service for so long. I'm training a new employee as we speak, and all he keep saying is " I'm not doing anything I don't want to. Or screw management " he's young 34 yrs old has a college degree in business, but his attitude and work ethic really socks. I feel more like a babysitter, than a Steel producing manufacture.but like you imply patience and encouragement does wonders. Thank you for your thoughts on this subject.Sgt Joseph Baker -

I have people like that as well. True story: Had a guy on my team retire Friday. Monday the team enjoyed a slice of cake celebrating his retirement. One lady in our area said that was tasteless. I told her, you didn't put up with him for 10 years like we did.... I can honestly say that I kept giving him chances to show his better side, and I encouraged him when he did well, so I ate that cake with a clear conscience. What kept me going was the thought of how many times I have been forgiven, so I tried to start every Monday like he just joined our team; usually lasted until at less noon.
