Criminals get their weapons from a number of places...some buy them in back alley deals and others steal them. Some criminals legally purchase them at their local sporting goods store or gun shop...remember, nobody is a criminal until they commit a crime.

SGT Michael Glenn - Ok, with that thought. Most GI's, at one time or another, have looked at, bought, or traded pornographic material! So with this idea all GI's, because they have done this are sexual deviants, or Perverts? I get the part of the criminal intent and that is what it is until acted upon and then it becomes ?????? whatever. Correct?

Im trying to understand all this ... how can a criminal legally purchase a firearm at a local sporting goods store?? if they are a criminal, they have pleased your standards and went and got caught, so SHOULD be in the data system, are you saying that sporting good stores are criminals because they sell to criminals???? or are law makers now satisfying your standards by allowing loopholes for criminals to buy weapons??? Im confuzzled here. or did more people just become criminals? This is going pretty fast and Im seeing a lot of criminals being born here...Just sayin sir.

Wow, here we go....Mr. Joe Law Abiding Citizen goes down to his local Dick's or Academy and buys himself a new Glock and goes home. He is able to legally purchase that Glock because he has no criminal record that would prevent him from doing so. A few days, weeks, years or whatever, him and the missus get into an argument and he shoots her with his Glock...maybe he gets fired and goes back to work and shoots his boss...maybe he becomes radicalized through the interweb and shoots a bunch of random people...who knows. But once he does that, whether he is caught or not, he becomes a criminal. Also at that point he is a criminal who committed a crime with a legally purchased weapon.

Criminals get there guns from the shady dealers, shady pawn shop owners, back door sales, unlawful entry to cars and homes and or other criminals! We have enough GUN CONTROL Laws! Enforce the laws that we have on the book now. To go along with another post on this thread, Gun safety and Awareness needs to be implemented, like the hunter safety course.

As SGT Cornell Wallace stated, " Criminals are going to get them, the way criminals get them!".

Nicely said, Im a firm believer in gun control... you have to use proper breathing and a steady trigger squeeze among other steps to ensure the one round one kill scenario... Yep, Im all for gun control.

Current laws need to be enforced.
No more new laws.
Gun Safety/Awareness needs to be promoted over just ownership
Proper and thorough background checks
Did I mention Gun Safety/Awareness?

Criminals are going to get weapons where they are going to get them- what can be done to help mitigate this?

I think the key here is enforcing current laws and imposing harsh penalties for people that commit crimes with guns. You will never keep guns out of the hands of criminals as long as guns are in existence, and if that were true then criminals would just find a new tool of choice...knife, bat, rock or stick.

I certainly agree with enforcement of current laws and at present a very poor job is being done there. Criminals will still get firearms but then there are supposed to be penalties for that esp when they have committed a crime using a firearm.
