They are legal permanent residents. Service helps fast track their citizenship applications. Essentially, they're trying to create more "illegals".

I served with many South American and Asian Green Card Holders who were outstanding sailors and went on to become very patriotic American citizens.

That is interesting PO1 William "Chip" Nagel. What Federal statute is being violated in this instance?
I remember having a Lebanese soldier in my infantry unit in the early 1980s. He was a solid soldier who went on to becoming a citizen.
In the past decade we have had too many disgruntled former Service members shooting up communities. I believe most of those were citizens.
I would not be surprised if intel is behind this restriction which I expect is not a blanket restriction but a bar which some can pass over.
