It is about time to boot Turkey from NATO and consider it enemy territory SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. As soon as possible we need to vacate Incirlik and move those assets and all other overt assets to our bases in Bulgaria or Romania which are west of the Black Sea.
Erdogan is an Islamic thug who is supported by Islamic thugs.
GEN Joe Votel is an old friend of mine.
Hopefully our government will reject these Turkish allegations as the trumped up charges very soon.

Turkey is an important ally on the Eastern Flank of NATO.
They had a huge army, navy and air force. I wonder who is left to lead now that many are now retired
dishonorably.
The Turkish President blames that Muslim Cleric who is here as one of the main consipirators. Has Turkey filed for extradition yet?
I hope we find more out on what the US Generals did or did not do. They are breaking the law if they did help out the rebels in any way.
The Turkish Junta is accusing the USA of complicity but I guess they won't read this article and do their homework.

Turkey is like China, if they don't want something to be discussed, they make a law to forbid its discussion like The Armenian Genocide.
Attending our unit's 1SG change of command and Promotion to Sergean Major was His Father. He once was a Major General, Logistics, for the Iranian Air Force under the Shah. When the revolution came in 1978/1979, the younger officers came over to the HQ and shot/executed the 4 star and Chief of the Air Force and the Chief of Staff. His Dad was liked by the rebels and told to leave so he fled Iran and now lives in the USA. I hope this does not happen in Turkey.
Let us hope that cooler heads prevail. A weak Turkey is something the new USSR/Russia can exploit and the Civil War can come into Turkey and we already have a humanitarian disaster. Turkey is a good buffer and an Ally and we hope it remains that way. We hope it restores its Arab like Semi-Democracy it had before. The situation is worrysome.

Exclusive: all the details about the air ops and aerial battle over Turkey during the military......
This is the untold story of what happened on the failed coup in Turkey for Air Force Enthusiasts. This is a story more important than the Kardashians and the always divorcing stars of Hollywood.

LTC Stephen F. - 1) GEN Votel put his foot in his mouth pretty badly, and had to massively walk back his comments. Erdogan might be a thug, but GEN Votel's comments were rightly criticized by Turkey. 2) News flash: the US doesn't have a base in Incirlik. The US uses, by mutual agreement, part of a Turkish base at Incirlik. Yes, Turkey cut power to Incirlik Air Base from 15 July to 22 July. This was because many of the jets that participated in the coup attempt came from Incirlik Air Base. But US facilities were not without power for more than a few minutes; back-up generators were switched on almost immediately. And as even CENTCOM acknowledged, the closure of Incirlik air space had minimum to no impact on counter-ISIL ops. The coalition flew 17 sorties against ISIL on 16 July, well within the normal range for the month of July, and coalition flight ops were back to normal by 17 July. 3) Turkey has never been an on-again, off-again ally. Turkey has been a formal Ally since the very beginning of NATO. Just because a country's interests and decisions don't match US interests and decisions don't make it a non-ally. Thankfully, many of the US's formal Allies routinely disagree with US policy and security perspectives, limiting the US urge to police the world. Such disagreement doesn't make them a non-Ally, though. Allies can disagree---that's what alliances are all about, consensus. 4) You cover Turkey's regional historical relationships well. I think "hatred" is a bit too charged of a word, but you're right that Turkey has a host of issues with other countries in the region. 5) Turkey fully supported Desert Storm. To say otherwise is revisionist history. 6) Several NATO partners, including France and Turkey, balked at George W. Bush's illegal invasion of Iraq in 2003. If only more had, maybe we wouldn't have the mess we have now. 7) Yes, Turkey is predominantly a Muslim country---99% of its population or so. I don't see a problem here, even if this does in part define Turkish culture. But France is largely a Catholic country, as is Italy, and Spain. The UK has its own special brand of Christianity. Pick a country in Europe, you'll have a hard time finding one that isn't predominantly Christian. Even the United States is largely defined by its Christian background, even if it was founded on the idea of religious freedom by a bunch of athiests. So, all NATO partners, in your conception, are primarily defined by the majority religion in their country. So what? Or are you just opposed to those countries that are majority Muslim? 8) Again, what "Kurds" are you talking about? The Kurds of Iraq, who we encouraged to rise up against Saddam during ODS, and then who we abandoned to be slaughtered by Iraqi helicopters? Or perhaps the recognized terrorist group, the PKK, or its off-shoots in Iraq and Syria? Or the Kurds in northern Iraq? There is no such thing as "the Kurds." Try to be a bit more specific. I'm surprised that in your fifty years of studying Turkey, you don't understand this.

MAJ (Join to see) - I hope the Kurds make Peace with Turkey because if they really wanted their Kurdistan as they wished they would be at war with Iran, Iraq, Turkey and Syria. They have to compromise and accept autonoumus status more like Iraq arrangement. I can see not all Kurds think alike and they fight among each other too and that hurts their cause and causes deaths in Turkey as well.

MAJ (Join to see) - Good historical overview and keeping us posted on your situation. Kurds are like white people all very different( even if they are from the same clan or tribe) and you can't assume or stereotype. I have been told the Pesh Merga are like Gangsters though their name means' those that face death'.
Major Jager, you have a tough assignment there in Turkey. The Turks, right or wrong, are doing what he (their President) thinks is right. You are caught in the middle. Democracy Arab style is not like we know it. I guess he will be like the Central and South American Generals we put up with their right wing or nationalist abuses as long as they were against communism so we looked the other way like in El Salvador, Honduras, Chile, Argentina and elsewhere in the 1970s. We will probably put up with his abuses so long as it does not get too much in the news and ISIL is made non-mission capable and Turkey has clout in the Arab League to stop anti-EU/NATO/US actons. Strange Quid-pro-quo.

1. The Kurds are those who speak Kurdish or are directly descended from those who do and embrace their culture. There are "two standard dialects: Kurmanji and Sorani. Kurmanji is spoken in Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Lebanon while Sorani is found in Iran and Iraq."
2. FYI as a senior captain I was involved in the planning of Operation Desert Storm.
3. Europe historically had many Christians. The state churches still exist in the UK [Anglican], Germany and Scandinavia [Lutheran]. France, Spain, Portugal and Italy [roman Catholic] and Orthodox varieties in eastern Europe and Greece. Christianity is a personal faith and while there are Christians in each nation their numbers have been going down since the 1960s.
Thanks for mentioning me LTC (Join to see)

In the Mid 70's we did a NATO Exercise in North Western Turkey, around "KIRKLARELI"(Sp?) At that time there was as many Christians in the Turkish Military as Muslims. Back then every this was good... Looks like a Lot has changed.
This Hole Mess looks like another Staged "Arab Spring Up Rising." Just like in the early years of "BHO's" Regime, and after his apology tours 2009-2010, and again Just after he leaves the Area, Again SHTF...
I believe this was a Set Up By "PM Erdogan" insiders for Him to take power and oust the remaining elements of Western Culture. A simple move to restore the Islamic "Turk Ottoman Empire " and concrete the Muslim Caliphate at the Front door step to Southeastern Europe...
Like "LTC Stephen" said I think we need to Vacate the AO. and Take all our "Money and Materials including the Nukes", with US
We Have many Bases in that Theater of Operations, Including "Gray" and "Black," Not to mention Israel. But the Muslim in The WH and his regime will stop that before it even gets started.
I Pray it settles Quickly, I fear it is the beginning of another 444 days in Tehran...

In the 70's I was in country, and had a hell of a laugh with the guy that had to be brought out of Turkey in a mail bag because he made the mistake of trying to pick up a local girl at the market. The message of this true story is that one way or another we will stay in Turkey, no matter who is in the White House.
