You know, I ran across an Airman who said he was in the Marines and wanted to do something different and joined the Air Force. Said our basic training was a joke, and he loved the food. I guess this was the exchange for that guy?

I went through Security Police tech school in 1997. There were 2 prior service members, Marine and Army, that enlisted and just went to tech school, no AF BMT.

TSgt Andrew Armitage - Don't know what to tell you. I know he was a marine and he was in Tech School at Sheppard AFB, and he told me at the time he had to go thru basic training. Only other thing I can think of was that he had been out of the service for over so many days that he required new basic training no matter what?

I left the Air Force after 3 years and joined the Navy and stayed 17 years. Had to do boot camp again. In reality Navy boot camp was harder but as it was my 2nd boot camp I knew what to expect and why the mind games so it was easier on me. I was 28 and my company was full of 18 year olds. When they said lights out and they continued to talk I sounded like the voice of authority when I yelled “SHUT UP”. I was ready for rest.

My brother joined the Air National Guard. One day we went for a run while I was home on leave. We started off, he stayed with me for a while (he is 5 years younger than I) then he started falling off pace a bit. He asked how far we were going. I gave him my turn around point to which he exclaimed, "that is 3 miles" I told him yes. He said he only had to run a mile and a half and had 20 minutes to do that. I told him if I did two miles in that amount of time I would fail my PT test. So, I think the physical part of the AF training is less demanding. ----but to go from E-6 to E--2, time in service should have at least given him E-3.
