I took BCT at Fort Polk, La. In 1965. I was given the roster for all of us on board the bus that took us to Fort Polk. When I gave it to the 1st SGT., he assigned me to E Co., 1st Platoon, 5th Btn. I was made squad leader, which I thought he assigned me for carrying the roster. I went on to Fort Gordon and took 11Bravo training, and I was made a squad leader there. In 1967 I was in Vietnam, so I know what those troops went through in BCT in 1967.

I thought it was a bad experience until I went to Vietnam. My training and discipline helped, along with God, for me to come home. Thank you for your service too SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL.

I attended BCT not long after this commercial was made, SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL! I was on infamous Tank Hill at Fort Jackson, SC for BCT from 11NOV69 to 16JAN70. I was
3rd Squad Leader (Acting Corporal), 1st Platoon, Delta Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Training Brigade. This sad sack photo was taken on the first floor of the entrance to the barracks of 1st Platoon. 3rd Squad was billeted upstairs. LTC Stephen F.

BTW SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL, the actual approved Army recruiting slogan at the time was, "Look Sharp, Be Sharp, Go Army!"
