My three years driving education, platform instruction, and curriculum at the PACAF NCO Academy at Kadena Air Base on Okinawa were, hands down, the absolute BEST three of my twenty years in the Air Force. The Okinawans are the nicest people on Earth! Not far behind are the Japanese (Okinawans don't like to be called "Japanese," and to be fair, there's a discernible difference). In any event, both cultures are far more kind, polite, and self-disciplined than pretty much all others.

I spent four and a half years at the Yokosuka Naval base, 81- 85. My dad was the Sergeant Major of the Marine barracks. Being a dependant is a whole different ball of wax then being a SM stationed there. That being said, it was the best experience I had during my father's 30 plus year career. The nationals that I interacted with were the friendliest I've run across. The country has many beautiful and sobering sights to visit. I know there have been many changes since I was there, but I have always wanted to go back for a visit and bring my wife.
