That article makes a good case for why Canada and the US both really need the F-35, most of our current aircraft are older designs than the F-18.

Agreed, but because of the dispute with Boeing aircraft versus Bombardier, the current Canadian government cancelled the decision to purchase F-18 Super Hornet Jets. They are supposed to have a competition between different manufacturers.

LTC (Join to see) The Griffin is a great aircraft if you are not concerned with Steath. The bus shot it self in the foot with the Bombardier bit, I wonder who paid who to be that stupid.

1stSgt Nelson Kerr Nelson, I love the Griffin to except at the Griffin does not have link 16 so it can't communicate with other NATO Fighters. They found this out either in war or in an exercise because once the mission was received, if they couldn't communicate to abort or change the mission. I don't know what's so hard to put a link 16 in a Swedish fighter plane.

LTC (Join to see) - How long has Trudeau been in power? It has been several years, but he's blaming the previous government? It's as if his government was completely powerless to fix any problems handed to him by the previous government. That, or his liberal priorities did not extend to investing money into his military, wouldn't that be a shock.

SSgt Christopher Brose the Canadian Navy currently does not have an actual Destroyer. They have frigates that are way overdue. They had a couple of Supply shifts but one cut fire and the other one rusted through. They try to lease a converted transport ship and they put it into service only because the Admirals blew the whistle. The top Admiral in the Canadian Navy was fired for giving out classified information on the Trudeau's decision to cancel this in interim Supply shift. So what I'm trying to say it's been a problem for both conservative and liberal Administration is not willing to push forward with their budget needed to have a good Navy and a decent Air Force. The shift is up and running now and actually helping American ships as well but the Admiral sacrifice his career to make sure that politics wouldn't stop the supply ship that the Canadian Navy desperately needs.

The bottom line is having the equipment is one thing but You still need people to both Fly and maintain the aircraft. I suspect Canada however isn't alone with those sort of problems. To keep a operational level of readiness for the Canadian Air Force or anyone's Air Force that's pretty basic. Seems the problem of manpower shortages needs very badly to be addressed and proper training given for more pilots and maintenance crews.

LTC (Join to see) - That small percentage on defense for a nation that covers so much geographic area seems and awful bad shortfall. It seems the Left fails to understand the importance of the Canadian Armed Forces and the contribution to keep the freedom that had been enjoyed in Canada. That seems kind of like here, the nation to Canada's South and I may say for the same basic reasons.

SMSgt Lawrence McCarter conservative government also kick-the-can-down-the-road and they were going to buy the F-35 when the Liberals came in, they killed it and they were going to buy the F-18 Super Hornet what's going says they worked on things what's are Bombardier airplane so the trade disputes killed that programs and this resulted in them buying the junk at 18th from Australia.

That sound like a dangerous move to replace older aircraft with more used aircraft, seems that's not an advance at all. I certainly hope that isn't going to put Canada's Air Force Pilots at risk with worn out, already used equipment.
