PO1 William "Chip" Nagel-I find watching this how the war had changed us as a Military and a Nation.I served earlier in Vietnam (1966-67) and I guess with a different view of its outcome or as we used to say "when I left we were winning" the later generation of Grunts had it much harder what with the opposition at home, racial tensions, winding down of forces ect their mission was doomed as was the War.

I think we won every battle and that is some bragging rights. We just lost the War. I think we were in a Catch 22 We were backing the Wrong Horse, During WWII we were actually helping the North to some degree against the Japanese, The North Vietnamese "Delcaration of Independence" is a xerox copy of our own (Never a good idea to fight against your own Ideals) South Vietnamese Government was always Corrupt and most people on both sides didn't support it.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - I agree with all your points, the South Vietnamese government was corrupt and outside of the elite units, airborne, marines ect their military did not want to engage the NVA or PAVN forces so really the burden was with us and our few allies it just is tragic that we sacrificed over 58,000 good people for a bad war.
