This should not be a surprise. The People's Republic of China will not obey any treaty or agreement that puts them into any position of disadvantage. Once the British left Hong Kong, that "semi-autonomous region" was entirely under PRC control, and they will do whatever they want to do there. There is no freedom of the press in China. The Chinese Communist Party has only one aim, and that is to maintain their control over a unified China. Remember, the People's Liberation Army, the Chinese armed forces, belongs to the Chinese Communist Party, NOT to the government.

The Chinese Communists will do anything, and I do mean anything, to accomplish that dictatorial control. Signatures on a piece pf paper mean nothing to them. They will steal our technology and then undercut us on the price of the goods they create with our stolen technology. They regard us as fools for thinking that patents and copyrights will protect our intellectual property from their theft.

I also get upset at how some of our press abuses its position and privileges, especially in the way some of the liberal press behaves in its utterly biased treatment of President Trump. But, so long as the press is truthful and objective, freedom of the press is essential to a healthy republic.

Good???

Are you cheering for China and its historically communist government trying to suppress freedom of speech in Hong Kong? (PRC promised political and economic autonomy there until 2047 as part of the handover)
