There will never be a resolution to this debate. The one time that I actually agree with a hard left liberal on RP happens to be today when he was quoting someone else who said "The best gun/caliber you can carry is the one you have." I can't fault that at all!!!

I'll take either in a pinch.
If our head sheds would actually learn from past battles and wars about Soldier loads in combat,the NATO 7.62mm would be the all purpose round the 5.56mm became.

Favorite general round is still the 7.62mm NATO, but I will admit to owning several 5.56mm which I find very useful for certain applications.

I agree on the 30 cal. I have .308 chamberings though. Firing .308 through a 7.62 NATO chambering is bad for for your hardware. .308 chambering can eat both without a possible hiccup.
