I guess people forget the Cold War. When I was on The Enterprise on Westpacs both in 1977 and 1978 if we picked up a Russia Bear on radar they launched the Alert 5. For the non-sailors. that's 3 F-14's armed with Phoenix Missiles. The Russia's either changed course or risked being shot down. I can think of none that did not change course.

The Destroyer had another choice. Light up the aircraft with a Missile lock. That's short of shooting them down but aggressive enough to tell a pilot he is about to go for a swim.

Wonder if the skipper still has his job. Not going to GQ was a HUGE mistake. Ship Condition was not set even for an accident.

Phalanx CIWS Should shred the next Russian military aircraft that decides they want to play and make the U.S. look stupid. This Administration won't be around much longer which is why I think they are taking their liberties now before we have a Commander in Chief who won't put up with this B.S.

PO3 Michael Dean - PO; NOT a good idea.

For one thing you are going to be risking the lives of those intrepid airmen who like to do the same thing to Russian naval vessels and/or conduct "training runs" into airspace that the Russians have declared to be Air Defense Identification Zones.

NO ONE is seriously thinking that the Russians were doing anything other than a bit of semi-official skylarking.

Does it annoy you when someone beats you to the punch? When they respond with the only reasonable comment before you get the chance? PO2 Mark Saffell did it to me just now. However, he did omit one salient fact. Kerry is an idiot.

CPT Jack Durish Sorry about that. and your correct. Kerry is a HUGE idiot. Amazes me how many people that don't know that was our life back in the 70's when it came to Russia. They tested us to see what they could get by with. With Kerry and Obama, no test required. They and Iran can do anything they want.

PO2 Mark Saffell - Not only an idiot, he's just plain wrong: unless their targeting radars were lit -- and since they got to fly away, they clearly weren't -- those aircraft violated no laws.

This is how you stop Russia. Or at least it was how we did and it worked. Great Video well worth the 5 minutes it takes to watch.

F14 was a great aircraft. I used to love watching them from USS Dewey DDG-45

PO2 Mark Saffell - PO; A great video, but there are two things which puzzled me: [1] How did we get the "inside the cockpit" shots of the Russian pilot? and [2] Why was the "Russian" pilot wearing USAF insignia?

Actually, make that three: [3] How many US Destroyers carry F-14s?

No F-14's on Destroyers, But I'm sure a US Carrier isn't too far away.

COL Ted Mc As for the other two questions. My guess is Top Gun School, But that's not why I posted the video. I just thought it was cool. If I had wanted to be correct for the times now, I would have wanted to use F-18's
