SGT (Join to see) I trust your research and judgement, but I'd like to point out that his DD214 shows he was a USMCR (Reservist) and that initial 9 months was likely Initial Training (3 Months plus leave), Marine Combat Training (1 month), and Artillery School (4 months) before being sent to final unit (14th Marines).
Additionally, 14th Marine Artillery Regiment is a Reserve RGT. (10, 11, 12 are the active ones).
The reserve obligation time aligns with someone getting out at the end of their IRR (Individual Ready Reserve) time and his "paid leave" (16 days) would be about 6~ months (we use 10 days right after bootcamp as part of transit) which doesn't jive with "AWOL" time (we don't accrue leave in AWOL status).
That said, he "should" have a certificate of discharge from the Reserves after 4 years and his final discharge papers after 8 years showing his actual status(es).
Again, I don't doubt you, but the documentation doesn't line up. I think your "spider-sense" is probably correct but not for the right reasons.

All of those stats were what was on the article from "This Ain't Hell". None of that was my doing. I'm just the messenger in this case. But, thanks for the info anyway.

SGT (Join to see) - Ah. My mistake. Dude sounds iffy, but DD214 (as displayed) doesn't cause any major concerns. I'd hate to see us lambast someone if they didn't deserve it.

Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS - That's the worse thing that could happen. I've always gotten sound proof when I check on someone before posting it. I know how that would hurt me if it happened. You're correct about one thing though. I do keep you straight. :-)
