Delta Airlines flight 1163, carrying Marine Pfc. James Samuel "Sam" Smith, 19, touched down on Mississippi soil Saturday, bringing the local hero home for the first time in more than 70 years.
He was met by family, fellow servicemen and servicewomen, Patriot Guard riders and friends and was escorted from the plane by the U.S. Marine Corps Military Honor Guard from Baton Rouge.

LTC (Join to see) I've a close, missing in action friend, who hasn't come home yet, and I think about him all the time. When I look at my bracelet, I tell Terry it won't be long before he comes. His parents have passed, but he still has a living family and a whole host of friends, and buddies he served with, who have never forgotten him. I had two friends in Nam that worked at the POL dump who were captured by the NVA at LZ English, when they tried to over run us. They've never been seen or heard from, but I haven't forgotten them. Just sayin...
