I have a home just a few miles from the volcano flows. The flows are always unpredictable so do not be a hero. It is amazing that molten lava can flow onto the lands where people live. I learned to not get in the way of what nature intends to do. That makes better sense.

When I was a kid I was really interested in rock and mineral collecting, and though the collecting phase left me long ago, I still find that topic interesting. On the very rare occasions I find myself in DC I try and make it to the museum with those amazing mineral collections. In particular I was/am fascinated by volcanos, and love watching footage of them. There's just something about them and lava flow footage that I find mesmerizing. Every now and then I think of taking up rock hunting as a hobby to get out of the house, but I live in Florida where the only rocks I've seen in 20 years are the ones the guys building roads truck in to build the base layer on top of the sand. :(
