Here's a hypothetical thought exercise. I like it from a geographical and strategic view point. How about part of the OK pan handle. ICBMs don't care where it is, so they're not part of the equation. In the event of a ground forces invasion, the enemy would have to make it's way across half of CONUS to get there as opposed to sitting on the eastern seaboard which makes it a target for naval bombardment, cruise missiles, and amphibious assault. Out in the middle of the country enemy forces would have the option of fighting across miles of American land with "A gun behind every blade of grass" or an airborne assault, or high altitude bombing run. With our Air Force between them and their target. Which scenario has a better chance of being successful? Geographically I like it being more centrally located for visitation. Left coaster's now have to travel 3K miles if they wish to see our Capitol. Id venture to guess that many of them feel like they're cut off from what's going on in the Halls of Government. Leave DC as a Museum of our history, the Memorials and Monuments, turn it over to the Park Service.
