Junk science and politicians that want to tax/spend and who probably don't work out themselves in Canada are thinking of taxing 5 cents every 100 ML of soda/pop as a means of
supposedly reducing consumption of soft/sugary drinks. I just think its a way to make money to pay for other projects when fitness and exercise will help. Can't kids to drink suger free Pepsi zero too?

I would actually prefer my kids to drink the regular one with the sugar or the real sugar. Why? because on top of all the already harsh, bad for your body chemicals in coke/soda originally, the artificial sweeteners is worse for your body than the sugar itself. I think it is just a ploy to make more money too actually. OOOooo big deal 5 more cents as a tax. That is not going to stop people from buying what they are addicted to. Just look at druggies.... they stop at nothing to get the money for their fix.

I remember in elementary school we ate typical school food. Pizza, french fries, etc. You know, "fatty" foods. But yet us kids didn't get fat, develop childhood diabetes, etc. Why? Because we had recess 2 or 3 times a day and gym class a few times a week, that's why!

PO1 John Miller - not only that but what did we do when we got home? Played outside, not sit on our blessed assurance playing video games all the time. When I was a kid we still had that intangible thing called imagination.

TSgt Melissa Post - You sure are right about that, and We even talked to each other in person.We rode our bikes or walked to our friends houses, We played outside, built Forts in the woods, went fishing, swimming, shooting ,got together in the neighborhood and played Baseball, football and basketball. As Major Conway also pointed out We also had recess, where We also played and also had Gym in school.

I am tired of social engineering via taxation. The country needs to simplify the tax structure to cover the cost of running the government and pay down the national debt, and let people make their own damned decisions.

The media has jumped on a paper that has supposedly found a link between taxing "junk food" and a reduction in obesity. News flash: this is old news. We know that simplistic top-down approaches such as taxation or public announcements telling us to exercise and eat our vegetables don't work.

That is so true. Lately, Chicago learned that it's best to cancel the sugar tax. Stupid Progressive places like Seattle and other places are doing it and it's not to help kids at all, it's to make money and that is all! People be smart and just buy the soda outside that jurisdiction then charges it. Only the poor people suffer or the ones who don't have a car. What they are going to find out is that the restaurant industry is going to take the biggest hits but social justice Warrior liberals won't find that out until later. Luckily, Chicago sobered up.
