I find it very hard to read some of these post especially ones concerning my old unit the 4th Div.I was one of the ones leaving in July of 1967 having arrived by boat in Oct 1966 with the 1st Brigade,I know it may sound strange but part of me did not want to go and leave my Brothers,I had received a 45 day drop to go back and train AIT units at Fort Polk La.its a part of my life that that has many bitter sweet memories and stories like these bring them back.

Mr Efstathiou - not to belabor the theme but I always regretted my decision to refuse the drop and stay with the guys I had trained with and fought with in the almost 2 years I was with the 4th Div.but I guess God had different plans and thank you for the kind words.

This is a very good article, I respect all those who fought and died in Vietnam. This story has brought tears to my eyes. I really respect the men who volunteered for LRRP teams. It's was sort of different from the rangers in WWII because of the jungle and the way the enemy fought. Respect is all I can say.

Nicholas Efstathiou My uncle, who has sadly passed away, served in Vietnam. He was in the Navy, that is all he would ever say. My mom who knows some of what he did filled in that he served in Vietnam, and that he did something in intelligence. I didn't even know that he had served until I enlisted at age 27. I should have guessed from his off color sense of humor. I really wish I could have a talk with him about his service. I agree with you 100% that our Vietnam Veterans have not gotten the credit they deserve for fighting the war they weren't allowed to win. I am glad that in recent times these folks who served an ungrateful nation have started to be recognized for the sacrifices that they made. To my Uncle Bruce, I hope he found peace in the afterlife that he didn't have here.
