The Social Security Administration corrects about 9,000 mistaken death reports each year, a tiny fraction of the roughly 2.8 million deaths the agency handles annually. A regional Social Security Administration spokeswoman said in an email that her office contacted Mendez on Dec. 11 to fix the mistake after a reporter asked about his case.

The government flunky that declared him dead should also be declared dead, just to experience the process of having to fix it.

Public, Government Records are always problematic. Nature of the Beast and considering what is riding on it, it can be a nightmare if you lose Benefits because the Gov't thinks you are dead an you are not. I am reminded of Googling myself to find my own Obituary. There was a Soldier that died in our latest troubles in the Middle East with the same exact name as me (In German my name is not that uncommon). That was unnerving.
