Flash back to 1992 when there were still three SR-71 blackbirds that were used by NASA. I'm so sad that these planes are no longer flying but I had a chance to actually walk up and touch an SR-71 Blackbird that was on loan at the March Air Force Museum just after 9/11. I know it's no longer there.

Yes I wouldn't mind seeing one. As I recall they were a super pain in the ass to work with. I can understand to a degree. For all intents and purposes they were indeed space planes.
My other piece of half remembered trivia was that because the skin of the aircraft heated extremely at speed thus expanding considerably, that they leaked fuel all over the place while on the ground before flight. Didn't make a lot of sense to me but I recall hearing something to that effect.
