Ah the celebration of a loser and traitor, just like the celebration of Lee's birthday. Did the get out their conferate flags and wave them too?

He does like everyone else have the right to protest within reason and his personal beliefs should not be infringed on. "Virginia has marked a state holiday for Lee’s birthday since 1889. It added Jackson to the Lee holiday in the early 1900s. In the mid-1980s, the state began marking the federal holiday to civil rights martyr Martin Luther King Jr. on the same day, as Lee-Jackson-King Day". Now why did VA have to add those two celebrations to Kings birthday? Why, Why, Why? Now if the federal government is using a particular day to recognize Dr. King, why is it that multiple southern states had to show their view on that day by adding confederate leaders to the day also? It reeks of the "Here's what we think about you", "you're still not free", and "the old south is still around and we will rise again". You don't see anyone adding to GW's birthday celebrating the King of England's name with it, you don't add to VE day with the rebirth of Germany. He wanted them to know he does not appreciate that, an act that Virginia and other southern states still do only on MLK day. It is a slap in the face. You do not give up all of your constitutional rights just because you're an elected official.

If it was me, I would've countered by ensuring a motion to adjourn early every year in honor of MLK Jr. and the Civil Rights movement and birthday of any other renowned Civil Rights leader that fought for equality in the state of Virginia.

That or the day the Civil Rights act of 1964 was passed, or maybe to celebrate Abraham Lincoln's Birthday :) You could have a lot of fun adjourning early for all sorts of things.
