If you read a few articles about the cause of Creudfeldz-Jakob disease you will find that it is always linked to a thing called prions. Prions usually develop in situations where canablism is involved almost every species of animal has its own form of the disease that developed because of canablism. For instance Mad Cow disease is the bovine version of the disease, sheep developed scrapee, turkeys, chickens, and many other domesticated animals have developed their own form because of the bad habit farmers have of grinding up dead cattle and feeding the carcasses back to their own species. Creudfeldz-Jakob's disease developed because of regular canable feasting in certain human populations. In modern days it persists because of ancestor worship customs in a few human populations that require the eating of ancestors bones years after that person has died and critters have stripped the skeleton of all tissue. The bones are then ground into fine powder and Mixed with flour and baked into cakes and eaten. The largest area that still has this problem is the island of Paupua New Guinea. So this fella that died from eating squirrel brain had prions that jumped species from squirrel to human which is rare but it can happen or he might have been eating people. Also rare but it does happen. Any diligent medical and law enforcement team would have followed up this possibility and come to the conclusion that the prions jumped species. Food for thought; pun intended!
