Unfortunately, when certain individuals gain absolute power over other people (as drill instructors do), they use that power in an inappropriate way. Most drill instructors do an amazing job of taking a group of undisciplined, scared young men.......and turning them into Marines. But there will always be a few, such as the one in this article, that cross the line. I'm glad to see that he was dealt with in a harsh manner for his actions. I have no sympathy for anyone that brings dishonor on my beloved Marine Corps.

There is always that 10% that go off the rails. All got worked over due to mistakes of one or a few. Ran in the "stream" because recruits could not go inro the swamp so they called it the stream. So it went. Just as many dropped as graduated.

It is necessary to separate those who are not going to make it in the service during basic training, bit those cases cited in this article are egregious violations and also showed the Drill Sgtd lacked common sense, leadership skills and perhaps the proper training to be in these positions of responsibility
