I feel this is a bad decision! If a male Marine is not allowed have his tattoo extend beyond the shirt sleeve then the female Marines should not be allowed to extend up to high on the neck. We have enough time with equality by giving in just makes it worse.

I agree MGySgt Rick Tyrrell. That's why I wrote I can't believe the Marines caved in to where this Marines tattoo is, and found a way to appease those who have tats neck high.

Curious as to what type of shirt the females were wearing prior to a crew neck. Is this for day to day or dress uniform? In the Army EVERYONE wore the same crew neck t-shirt under their BDU's and for PT. Just because we're woman doesn't mean we have to show our goods (though many men in the service still expect it, especially the 'good 'ole boys'.) There should be one standard dress code for things of that nature.

SGT (Join to see) I'm not against tattoos, I have a number of friends that have chosen to get them, but I wonder how much forethought is being put into the placement of the tattoos. Are they thinking about their future and where they will be going in life?
Many civilian employers have policies against visible tattoos, they don't want those in positions representing the company whether at the front desk or in a company meeting with visible tattoos. This could be that tattoos were once considered to belong exclusively to the counter culture of gangs and groups that operated outside of the social center. This said it doesn't mean that there should be a ban on acquiring one.
In the military the sight of someone sporting a tattoo isn't a big deal and no thought is given to someone's character,n but outside the military it's not the same, forethought about what tattoo someone chooses to have and where it is placed should be considered before committing to one.

The U.S. Marine Corps is making it easier for women to cover up tattoos by allowing them to wear crew-neck undershirts beneath their uniforms.

CPT Pedro Meza - The reason I got the tattoo I have is because it's a skull with a wreath, and it reads "Death To My Enemies". I heard the VC were afraid of anything satanic, and wouldn't cut it off my arm, if I got captured, because of that. I don't know if that was true, because I never got captured.

SGT (Join to see) - In 85, the Colombian rebels collected tats, I waited until 99, once I was no longer going south, but of course in 03 I re-enlisted and ended up in Afghanistan where tats did not matter.

As several CPT (Join to see) have mentioned a tat or tats may come back to haunt you at some point in yr life esp if you expect to enter the civilian workforce in some capacity. Somebody should do a 'scientific-type' study to come up with which business sectors, industries, positions, etc are more open and accepting of tats and which ones less so. (eg., Victoria Secret model - No; Fitness trainer - Yes). Every business owner has his/her/their own opinion and a person may be surprised who will accept them and who won't. I have seen a lot trades, mechanics, back-room, shop, warehouse, drivers, fork-lift operators, food service servers, bar tenders, etc who are well tatted up. It's a pretty good thing if your tats are not visible to the public. No one will place a sign 'tattooed people need not apply' in the front window or in their job description. Not many people want to do business with an employee who has 'baby killer' tatted on his/her arm.

CPT (Join to see) - You'd look great with a little butterfly or something on your shoulder. Then, you would be one of the girls. Like this. Or this. Lol

SGT (Join to see) - Ha ha. I'd have to go for the classier of the two if I were to forced to choose. I prefer unmarked though.
