I always see something about universal service posted a few times a year. Everyone talks about how great it would be, but no one talks about how we would pay for it, how military infrastructure could handle such a load, how the VA would handle the increase, or just what you would do with possibly millions of active duty service members all at once?
I think this briefs well, and I wish there was a compulsory service, but I don't think there is a way to realistically implement it.

I've trained with foreign military services that have one or two year compulsory service for all able bodied males. 25% of their troops made 100% of combat arms units a disciplinary disgrace, Their very professional, career NCO's, SNCO's and Officer HATED compulsory service.

Universal service only works when the population believes that is the only way to keep the enemy from killing, raping, and pillaging across our own soil.

I was in the Army when there was a draft, many of my Brothers were drafted ,we all went to Vietnam together ,their service was above reproach, could it be done now?I think not, the world and how its changed has forever ended universal service in my view point,I takes guts to take our Oath and I fear the current generation is not up to the task,my God they don't even want to say the Pledge of Allegiance! From this old fart anyway this would not work.

I am not in support of this at all. There are those that have the calling and serve. There are others that have no business being within 500 of a military base. The military is not a reform school. Just a dumb idea all together.
