CURRENT SUMMIT FORECAST
Low pressure will pass over Quebec today dragging a strong cold front across the state. The passing front will result in rain that will pick up in intensity in the afternoon and bring a few isolated thunderstorms to the region by the midday hours. Convective activity could become severe resulting in small hail as well as sudden and violent gust of wind well over the century mark. As the front passes, temperatures will plummet allowing for rain to transition to snow this evening and overnight. As the low lifts northeast, a strong pressure gradient will set up on its backside briefly boosting winds to the century mark this evening. An upper level trough will bring continued upslope snow showers overnight despite winds gradually dampening heading into Saturday. Another low passing on Saturday will bring another round of snow to the summits prior to tapering a bit Saturday night. Behind the secondary cold front Saturday night, temperatures will once again plummet, likely reaching 0 degrees by daybreak Sunday.

I remember when I first started forecasting at the 15th OWS back at Scott. When I first hit the floor I was assigned to the East sub-region which covered bases along the East Coast from Virginia up to Maine. Not long after I started I remember walking to the points forecaster and telling them that there was a station upstream of one of their bases that had over 50 knots sustained wind and that they should probably issue. They just laughed and educated me on what Mount Washington was. It's a really cool place but I'm glad I will never have to work there. Would make a cool visit though.
