I saw this movie years ago. Peter o'Toole is at his eccentric best playing Murphy. If you have Amazon Firestick it is available to rent for $3.99 and well worth it.

Saw the movie many years ago, Capt Daniel Goodman. The movie was indeed based on a book of the same name by Max Catto. I remember enjoying the movie, but I've never read the book.
