The Cold War was full of ambitious and often strange projects. Case in point: Camp Century, the US Army’s subterranean nuclear apocalypse bunker built inside Greenland’s near-surface ice sheet; 52,000 square miles of tunnels capable of housing both personnel and nuclear weaponry not far from Russian borders.

I've seen a documentary about this on the History Channel. My only question is how 'we' lost track of it?

It seems the ice was shifting and it became difficult to maintain and ended up being abandoned completely and all the troops pulled out of the facility and area. Even above many more feet of ice were added by nature burying any views of anything that was left.
