What happened to "ZERO TOLERANCE"? I cannot believe that the article said the punishment did not specify what type of disciplinary action would be levied against the drug users or those who withheld information, but said it could expulsion from the Academy, restrictions or demerits.
Demerits? IMHO, these are supposed to be future leaders of our NAVY and we do not need leaders who engage in this type of behavior. We bust and send enlisted people to prison for taking pictures of reactor rooms yet we are not sure of the punishment for taking drugs in the Naval Academy?

CMDCM Gene Treants From what I remember, it was standard PAO policy to list the low to high possible outcomes. When I was there, we only had a few drug cases, and all were expelled.

I never had the time to plan a drug ring when I was there... I was too busy drowning in academics to have any spare time... I still can't get over the fact they piss tested the entire brigade in one morning!

LT Brad McInnis I have often been part of a Unit Sweep where we did a 100% test of all personnel on a ship in a morning and know others on Carriers who have done the same. Not that unusual todo b4 I retired.

CMDCM Gene Treants - The fleet is better at it than the Academy! Not sure if that is something to be proud of, though...

LT Brad McInnis - Not something to be proud of, just a part of life. Unit Sweeps included ALL hands from the CO on down to the most junior Sailor. We even got the Maa who thought he could get away with injecting Saline into his bladder to beat the test!
