Navy fires captain of guided missile submarine for 'loss of confidence'

A DUI will do that to a career. Such a dumbass. Take a feckin' taxi, Uber, or Lyft.

My mother's side of the family was Navy, so I'm sympathetic to the Navy. But this catch-all phrase about "loss of confidence" is BS. If a service decides to fire a ship's skipper you need to say why in explicit terms, not in vague waffle-word phraseology.

When I was O-6 reserve side, I'd have after office hours in my Fed job to assist transitioning officers. We had one of these O-6 Trident skippers "loss of confidence" types in the TPU (Transient Personnel Unit). That's where you chill pending separation. He brought his resume in. It was pretty easy to figure him out when he had no clue that "Commander of a nuclear missile submarine: able to destroy cities" wasn't a wise thing to put on paper. I got recalled to work the Ehime Maru incident in Hawaii. Likewise that skipper was relieved. The Japanese press was there in droves. About four hours on site, I told the Flags that they needed a suitably high Government official to come out and bow to apologize. Seems nobody wanted to tell them what to do, but hey I'm a Seabee. Once that happened 90% of the press disappeared and I could focus more on the real job.
