PO1 William "Chip" Nagel this is great news. When I came out of radioman school in 1981 I put in for all 8 of our icebreakers and filled out the rest of my dream sheet with 378' high endurance cutters. Though I was at the top of my class and was supposed to get a good billet, I was 5 to 10 years ahead of my time. There was a lack of female berthing and therefore a waiting list for Rated females for U/W billets. It's hard to believe we are down to only two barely serviceable icebreakers. I can't understand why the Coast Guard has been begging for money for years to update our aging fleet with no joy, but they will give the Navy money to build icebreakers for us!! SMH, but whatever works...

I tried to pull a fast one of my First Dream Sheet out of CTO A School. I wanted to stay in Florida so I put in Hawaii, Florida, Florida thinking there is no damn good way in Hell they would send me to Hawaii. Wrong. First Tour of Duty, CINCPACFLT Staff, Pearl Harbor, HI.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - I lived in Hawaii from 2nd through 5th grade. It was an interesting place to grow up. I hope that ultimately you had a good time in Hawaii. IMHO, the weather in Hawaii beats the hell out of Florida!

MCPO Katrina Hutcherson - Some ways yes, some ways no. Learned to Boogie Board and Free Style Dive which I love to this day. Was not real fond of the "Run the Howley off the Road Game" and I learned real quick what it means to be a Minority and I wasn't really thrilled with the Experience.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - I guess kids got a pass on most of that stuff. I remember diving off cliffs at Waimea falls when I was around 8 years old. Scaring the heck out of my mother, but the locals loved it and they had a great time helping me climb up the cliffs. They always talked about kill Howley day once a year when we were supposed to get hacked to death with machetes in school, thankfully, that was a silly kids rumor.
