Nothing new here. Destroyers, Frigates, Cruisers battleships (when they were still active) and Carriers all have Nuclear capability, but the Navy will neither confirm nor deny the existence of nuclear weapons aboard any of it's ships at any time.

The normal vertical launch missile launching system can already carry/handle nuclear tipped Tomahawk missiles. The crux of the decision would "the point" and "the reason." They are a surface ship which are hard to hide and they do not operate alone, so a need for a nuclear armed Zum would be something extremely rare.

SN Greg Wright, I need some information so I don't say anything stupid. Currently what ships currently have nukes on them. I seem to remember that nuclear weapons are secure in a separate locker with a 2 man rule and guarded by Marines. Would this ship be able to support that.

Subs and carriers have nuclear weapons, though the US doesn't officially acknowledge that carriers do. So far as I know, that's it.

So would there be any strategic advantage placing them on that ship. I mean we have tactical nukes, which in theory could be fired from an artillery piece, though I don't think I would want to be on that gun crew :(} SN Greg Wright
