Amy Coney Barret had been a judge - not a federal judge or an appeals court judge, her entire judicial career - for just under three years when she was confirmed to the Supreme Court

How do you determine that?

I have seen the suggestion that Judge Ketanji Jackson Brown hasn't the experence to serve as a Supreme Court Justice. There are no explicit requirements to be a Supreme Court Justice. There are no age, education, job experience or citizenship requirements. You don't even need a law degree. Any of us could be nominated by the President consistent with the Constitution. God forbid should most of us be confirmed.

In terms of experience, Jackson Brown served as a high school teacher, 3 other Justices currently serving had that experience. Jackson Brown attended an Ivy League Law School, 8 of the 9 currently serving Justices did the same (the exception? Barrett). She clerked for a Supreme Court Justice, 6 others did also. Judge Jackson Brown served as a public defender, no Justice did so. She served on the Sentencing Commission, 1 Justice also served on it. She served as a District Judge, only 1 Justice served as a District Judge. Finally, she is currently serving as a Court of Appeals Judge which 8 of the 9 currently serving Justices have also done.

No Justice....no Justice..... has had all the experience that Judge Ketanji Jackson Brown has. Her experience is unmatched and she has proven, so far, to be extremely smart and incredibly patient.

If you have done your homework, you know the criticism of her experience is nonsense.. There may be other reasons to question her serving as a Supreme Court Justice, if so state them.

President Biden could have made this nomination without ever saying his nominee would be a black female. Had he done so, I think she would already be on the court as everyone would have jumped to support her. No matter how good or prepared she is for the Supreme Court, she will always have an asterisk as being the first black woman and that over shadow this great thing we are seeing. I for one will never support any thing that is based on race or gender preference and in 2022 people like me are the new racists. We have some issues here as a country and when people like Biden make decisions based off race and gender because they know they will get support of those demographics, things only get more difficult.

MAJ Byron Oyler - I agree it is a bad move to do as Biden did and I told my wife that when I first heard it. I would remind you that Pres. Biden is not the first to do that. President Reagan did it when, during his campaign, he said, "one of the first Supreme Court vacancies in my administration will be filled by the most qualified woman I can possibly find."

Sandra Day O'Connor the first female associate justice of the Supreme Court. Appointed by Ronald Reagan. I just hate it when someone gives me facts.

Not sure it matters much since I am pretty sure she will be confirmed. Not a fight to waste political capital, as it won't change much on the court. Other than to give each side its talking points for the election. MAJ Dale E. Wilson, Ph.D. Thanks for the post.
