This may be the attitude of many career and wealthy congressional members. The way this man has come out to tell his constituents, they do not pay his salary is insanity. I bet he just ended his congressional career. Good riddance.

SPC Kevin Ford - Before you say something about gerrymandering, please take a look at the district map before doing so. It is real easy to do, either do a google search or go to Wikipedia and pull it up. I will do you a favor, here is a link to it in Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oklahoma%27s_2nd_congressional_district
And here is the Wikipedia entry for the entire state showing the changes in boundaries for the past 30+ years - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oklahoma%27s_congressional_districts

SSG Robert Webster That's why I used the term "may".

BTW, to me it does look like there may be something going on with the boundaries of those districts. I'm not the only one suspicious of the districts in Oklahoma, mathematical models also point to there not being something right in Dodge.

SPC Kevin Ford - Unfortunately if you use this article you are talking about the Oklahoma State House, not their US Congressional districts. As stated in the article - "Republicans here now control 78.5 percent of the statehouse seats — a 10 percentage-point increase since the GOP-held Legislature redrew legislative boundaries five years ago."
If you want to see what this article is in reference to, go to - http://okhouse.maps.arcgis.com/apps/PublicInformation/index.html?appid=46f2a396c19f48859660d5ccd8ecb368 and compare the three layers available.

SSG Robert Webster - That same group of people redrew the US Congressional districts. The districts are similar to what OK had before but not the same. It is hard for me to tell the significance of the differences. If they did it at the state level it's not too far a stretch to think they may have done the same for the US Congressional districts.

On the one hand an elected official needs to act in the way he thinks is best, taking public opinion into account but he shouldn't just do whatever the loudest group is yelling at him that day. On the other hand he has to realize that he is still representing the people in his district (all of them) and they sure as heck pay him, regardless of how much he paid in taxes.

True, and he canceled the next town hall meeting for security purposes. Sounds to me like he got part of the message loud and clear.

The only objection I'd raise to him saying that is if he claims he paid his own salary in taxes, then he doesn't get to complain about how his tax money is used when the general fund gets used in stupid ways.
