Her point is that the VA should be fully funded and the problem isn't the "system" but the lack of funding.

What this reflects is a political battle between what should be done with funding slated for Veterans. Some say that some amount of care should be privatized, she argues that privatization is a corporate money grab of tax dollars that would make the services we have even worse and the best thing to do for veterans is to fully fund the system we have.

Respectfully, it works when providers wish to do their jobs. I've had some of the best care, and some of the worst through the VA. It really is a crap-shoot. Though, in all fairness, the same could be said of the private sector. Many chalk VA issues up to either lack of funding, and/or being understaffed. Given that the VA routinely has to return part of its funding back to Congress each year, funding is obviously not an issue. Also, given that I worked in HR at the VA hospital in Portland, OR staffing was not an issue. The biggest issue is that the less desire-able ones that are still on staff do what they are supposed to for the first year which is the probationary period, and then after that first year, union protection kicks in and the unions make it nearly impossible to fire them. Couple that with essentially immunity from mal-practice suits being a federal employee, and there-in lies the issue and the systemic illness plaguing the system.
