Opinion | The military is diversifying faster than Trump's worldview. Here's why that matters.

The rank and file's diversity does not matter. They follow legal orders of the Commander in Chief, and the officers, SNCO's and NCO's or they do not, and they suffer the consequences. It is part of the societal bargain that has been struck.

People go where there are opportunities. It is good that the military is at least as diverse as our general population but as usual, the headline on this story is BS. Trump supports legal immigration and always has. Only legal immigrants can join and serve (with limited exceptions). So those joining are usually American citizens or naturalized citizens or permanent residents etc. You know, the folks that immigrated through a legal process which the president supports.

Pat Tillman joined the rangers for patriotic reasons. It is not much known, but he also felt compelled to join because he felt there were a disproportionate number of minorities in the military.
