Opinion | What happens when a soldier dies

Tony, I got a call one morning 0200 or so to let me know they needed my help a with a notification. One of my SF boys had been KIA. They hoped to get any additional information they could as they started the notification process. I was truly honored but I also felt as if I had just been kicked in the gut.

A former CDR and mentor was killed back here on his way to the war college. I felt as if someone took all the air out of my lungs. At some point I dont know how long, its a blur, I was ask to check his uniform and make it was all correct. That broke my heart to a million pieces, he was the guy who was not supposed to be killed or die.

I am not sure how many funerals of brothers I have been to or how many times I have said goodbye to a flag covered box as it made its way to the AC but it was to many. Tony you are correct in the quote you attached, William Tecumseh Sherman said so eloquently, "War is hell"
