There's a video clip of her crying during sentencing, saying "That is not me... that's not me, that's not him." *reviews the video evidence* "That is you... that is you, that is him." Lmao

I am not condoning their behavior but it seems to me this was an exercise at creating a crime where one might not have actually occurred or at least one as serious as the sentence. They are clearly despicable people and to do something like that to anyone, especially kids at a birthday party is reprehensible.

20 years for saying things that were uncomfortable, even racists and flying confederate flags seems a bit much. The first amendment even protects vile, hateful speech. Flying the confederate flag is not a crime as far as I know.

If they made a credible death threat then you have at least a verbal assault and perhaps a few other crimes. Not sure if a gun was actually there or not. It was mentioned witnesses saw it but there was no gun charge apparently.

We have people that get less for 2nd degree murder. I am guessing this one will not stand in appeal.

SFC William Farrell - I didn't say it was only waiving the flag. I acknowledged the words yelled and threats too. Unless the story has left out some important details I don't think this sentence will pass on appeal.

"Video footage from the party, *little more than a month after Dylann Roof’s Charleston church massacre,* shows a parade of trucks roaring by with Confederate battle flags." That timing may or may not have had something to do with the long sentences.

"Torres was sentenced to 20 years, with 13 of them in prison, for aggravated assault, terroristic threats and street gang terrorism. Norton, who according to the Journal-Constitution is the mother of Torres's children, was sentenced to 15, serving six, for terroristic threats and street gang terrorism." I'm gonna have to research exactly what they call 'street gang terrorism.' If such a law stands, I would think it has to include more than just harsh words.

Cpl Jeff N. - Here's the info from the Atlanta Journal- Constitution:

"Norton will be sentenced on one count of violating the street gang act and one count of making terroristic threats. Torres will be sentenced on three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one count of terroristic threats and one count of violating the street gang act. The aggravated assault charges carry up to 20 years for each count and the street gang act carries between five and 20 years, said Emadi. A terroristic threat conviction is punishable by up to five years in prison."

They seem to have gotten off lighter than they could have.

Wow. I really find this disgusting. I only know one color. Green. All of my brothers and sisters in arms. Now we have people destroying Jewish cemeteries. I wish I could catch a few of these ignorant bastards.

You may not care. But millions of Americans do. How would you feel if this was Arlington or another National Cemetery. I know I would be killing mad. But to each his own.

MSgt Kurt Stover - just so you know I don't have race issues. But maybe it's the looking glass world you live in. I feel all people are equal under God. What you or anyone else thinks really doesn't matter to me.
