Do stupid stuff, go to jail.
On the other hand, I have to feel a bit ambivalent about this whole mess.
The ban on privately manufactured firearms should not pass the historical analog test as articulated by SCOTUS.
Even if the law were valid, the charge of "dealing firearms without a license" should really be a tax evasion offense. The penalties specified are disproportionate.
Some people want to demonize so-called "Ghost Guns" for being "untraceable" but the reality is that the overwhelming majority of guns used in crime are untraceable and few if any crimes have ever been solved by tracing a gun to the criminal. The entire "gun tracing" process is a feel good exercise that costs millions and accomplishes almost nothing. Almost all guns manufactured or sold before 1968 are completely untraceable. Any gun that has ever been privately sold or given as a gift is untraceable. Any gun that was resold used is untraceable. And, of course, every gun that was ever lost or stolen is untraceable.
