That's what happens when a nation has a military that has a small percentage of professionals leading a majority of conscripts.
Compare that to the highly-motivated, spirited fighters indicative of the vast majority of Ukraine's forces.

The Russian forces are outnumbered in manpower but what they have is equipment which normally would more than make up for it. Unfortunately it is equipment that is much less effective when out of fuel and with flat tires. The Russian forces they have are demoralized and apparently low on food.
I've said this before, this matches the cold war Soviet formations where they were very heavy on front line units and very light on logistics. It always led to questioning how effective would any Soviet assault on Europe would be and how long could they maintain it without proper logistics. It looks like the answer to that is ... not very long.

So here is an observation. A lot of our information about the success of the Ukrainian forces is anecdotal and looking at the FEBA. In the back of my mind I have been wondering exactly how degraded are the Russian forces? How many casualties have the Russians really taken and how much equipment is destroyed? 1%, 5%, 10%, 20%?
How much is really happening and how much of our perception is a result of really good Ukrainian social media PR? I, and I think many of us, have been accepting it at face value. I am interested in seeing how much of that is real as we really don't have a good way to evaluate it.

I have such respect for the Ukrainian people in their fight, but I fear the consequences. Putin cannot afford to look weak. If he cannot take this Ukraine, I fear he may decide to completely destroy it, perhaps even with the use of nuclear weapons. Make it a wasteland.
