Only 25% of the student population can pass state standards in Math, and 56% in English. He might do better to hone his own craft and actually teach.

"...It is no surprise that school districts in affluent communities generally do better. Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District, in a beach side portion of Los Angeles County, recorded a 98.6 percent graduation rate and Silicon Valley’s Palo Alto Unified hit 94.9. In contrast, the urban Los Angeles Unified District, which serves many low income students, showed a 77 percent graduation rate, and the similar Oakland Unified had 64.9 percent."

That teacher does not foster a good learning climate at his school... he is a freaking dipshit!!

This is what I posted as a rebuttal in the OC register. I hope you like it!

This is sad that these students were told this in a History class. The U.S. Military is a great place to join. I personally knew of young boys joining the military, with no criminal records, joining the Active Duty to get away from Gangs in areas like Pico Rivera or other cities with gang problems in L.A. or Orange County. I remember being told by the Sergeants, who were in the California Army National Guard during the L.A. Riots, how the Gangs were upset that we stopped their drugs and gangbanging trade during the time the Active and National Guard troops were there to stabilize the area after days of rioting.

This Mr. Salcido no es un buen profesor, pero Si es un menso! I bet this dumb and left-wing professor would probably give crap to people in his class wearing the Make America Great Again Hat.

I bet you that a US Marine Captain with 5 years on the job at Camp Pendleton who lives in Oceanside or on base makes way more than this teacher or (hopefully soon to be gone) Council member. I bet his 'paisas' will still vote him back in. I am glad it is in the OC Register. Los Liberales can't say that its 'noticias falsas' o 'mentiras' since we have it recorded.

I am a Major in the United States Army Reserve. There is nothing wrong wearing a USMC Sweatshirt to class. If he was wearing a 'viva Zapata' or Cinco De Mayo sweatshirt instead, I bet the teacher would have said 'Orale!' The military is the 1% of the population that protects idiots like Mr. Salcido right to free speech. I hope the Teacher's Union loses their case and he gets disciplined. He will now be a 3 striker. What a poor excuse for an educator. They can put him, instead of Cameron Diaz, for a Hollywood sequel to Bad Teacher.

I met young Marines while in Afghanistan in 2008 and at Camp Pendleton last Summer. I met High-ranking Marines at a conference last week in Central California. No matter what rank, they are professional. They deserve our respect. I hope he makes a formal apology and I bet he will give Crocodile Tears to keep his job.

The issue with this history teacher is that he has offered his student a teachable lessons, the reality of teaching is that students don't care to learn until something sparks interest, so for me I see as at times the Universe hands an opportunity and what matter is what do you do with that opportunity.

Will it goes to show that the universe is handing this teacher a lot of attention in many media formats. Anything military is getting his attention. Orange County register for sure Marine Corps times and the Army times. Those are going to be a lot of angry Latinos who were mad at him because they served in the Marine Corps and they went to service academies as well and they probably have a better GPA that he did in high school and in college and they served honorably. This guy is a menso.
