The only thing that should come out of that is better training for the campus police. And for all who carry concealed legally, get a good retention holster. Just my $0.02.

Open or concealed, you need a good quality holster with excellent retention. It is inexcusable to have your weapon fall out of your holster, and dangerous too.

Campus police were always armed when I went to college, I almost joined the UMass Amherst Police while I was attending....You had to go through the State Police Acadamy first....That wouldn't work with a full load...!

I was surprised they were allowed to be armed in the first place, in Oregon. I also agree that the Campus Police should stay armed. It seems that predators believe that it is easy to attack people on campuses, so an armed presence will deter that. I also believe I do not have enough facts about why Mr. Washington was shot. Maybe the cop was to quick, and maybe there are other things that we are not being told. I will give it a little bit longer to get more facts before I weigh in on the later. Good Post.

Oregon is one of those states that believes no one should have a gun. We should all put flowers in our hair, and walk around flashing the peace sign, and then everyone will be happy and nothing bad will ever happen.

TSgt Larry Johnson - Your quite wrong on Oregon as a state, cities in Oregon are like that but not the whole state...
I lived in a small collage town of Corvallis for 4 years, carried legally concealed every day, was allowed to use the local PD indoor range.. Does that sound like the Oregon you described?
My oldest son still lives there some 15 years later......its still the same.

SGM Erik Marquez - I have a friend that lived there for over 15 years, and he said being a gun owner was getting harder, so he moved to Washington State, and deeper into the woods. He said it is getting bad there too. It seems that the people in these states that live in the country are being dictated to by the people that live in the cities. That is why we have the Electoral College in elections, so that 6 or 7 cities in America cannot dictate policies to the rest of the country. I believe that is what is happening in Oregon, Washington, and California. I don't have a clue how to fix it. Only solution is some type of Electoral college voting policy for whole states and not just the cities around the Capitols.
