This is hilarious. It was Saturday Night Live Satire of the Iran Contra hearings in Congress. At this point the hearings were dragging on and on with liberals in Congress trying to promote the premise that Reagan knew everything and was covering it all up. They did this skit in response to that and to kind of say enough of the BS..........lets move on as a country. It was hilarious when it first aired and its pretty funny now. One of the better SNL political skits.

Rather than be offended, to me, the skit presented Reagan as adroit, brilliant. And multilingual.

That was the intent....that was the satire. The liberals in Congress kept insisting that Reagan had to know every detail of what went on with the Iran Contra affair and it could not have been limited to just a few people. Truth was Reagan delegated and the folks he delegated to, took the delegation and ran with it beyond what he intended. So this was a view of Reagan as a secret mastermind of the whole affair to fit the view of the liberals in Congress at the time and it reflected the growing view of the rest of the country they were getting carried away with the hearings and that Reagan was innocent as he stated and did not know about this as he stated.
