I don't believe they should be laterally ranked into high grades like O6. An O6 should have some clue about what's going on. They should commission them in the grade of O1-3 as is already done and offer specialty specific stipends/bonuses to better compensate them. They already do this somewhat in the medical branches. That way they can make near equivalent to the civilian sector, but not actually be placed in an undue position of authority/experience.

Sounds complicated to me. Just realized we're almost neighbors. Welcome to RP Sir.

I can see it possibly viable for specific functions, but even then, the staff officers need to understand organizations, MDMP, and the Army. Imagine a newly minted civilian to Brigade Commander who does not even know how to march. How the hell is that person supposed to know what is in his/her brigade, organizations of support, and what exists echelons above the brigade?

Sir,
I totally support your point. MDMP and knowing the system is vital as officers progress thru the ranks. Without totally understanding those will protray them as an incompetent leader holding the rank.

I concur as well. It takes many years to grow leaders who understand the art and science of war and the requisite leadership to command.

I thought the selection process for any kind of command is stringent enough to separate these types out? I doubt there will ever be any level commander that joined last week as an O-6. He will probably be in his office/operating room doing what he did before, only with the green suit on.

You are probably right. Those who enter late are experts in their functional areas and will probably remain so in the military.
