My father in law (WWII vet, infantry in the Pacific), came down with Alzheimer's and it was devastating. He got to the point where he no longer recognized immediate family and would babble hours on end about the war (not pleasant stories). Worst yet, he became very violent and we had to place him in a home for his own protection. It was very expensive (3 years - $3k a month) and the VA would not compensate a dime. I truly hope the medical community can make progress on this debilitating disease. It was sad to see such a humble gracious man deteriorate in front of our eyes. He deserved better.

Mom and a Good Percentage of the Maternal Side taking by it. I'm a Carrier at the Least and Better than Average Chance of Dying from It. Dying Early May be Preferable.

Sorry to hear that Chip. Life is not fair sometimes. I've thought about what I would do if I were affected by Alzheimer's...hard decisions. Don't want to be an emotional/financial burden on my family.
