Nice read. I think we all know that written communication is a great way for misunderstandings of the other person's positions to happen. I can't tell you the number of times I've misunderstood someone else's position or they have misunderstood mine.
It seems that the best way to go forward is to listen to people when they say they didn't mean what you thought they meant and not to get bent out of shape when someone misunderstands our position. It's just the nature of the communication and we should expect that it will happen. At some point we may come to the conclusion that someone is deliberately distorting our position, but an assumption of a simple misreading with a clarification should be our starting point.
