I've been to the Memorial. It is moving in it's simplicity, without being overstated. It is a constant, tragic reminder that even with many combined years of Sea Time of the bridge team during Special Sea Detail on a Coast Guard Cutter or USN Warship, a few seconds of indecision compounded by extraneous distractions and inexperience can lead to disaster and the loss of life.
The Memorial, for all you Coasties (and everyone else as well) stationed in Florida or just passing through, is located on the North End of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge causeway. You must be travelling on I-275 and crossing Tampa Bay. The Memorial is located at the rest area, with many signs leading to the rest area and the Memorial.
